Day 3: Being of Service

3/19/2020

Most of us are now confined to our homes with no personal contact other than our immediate family members. So how can we be of service and lift someone's spirit during this time?  Research shows us doing something nice for someone makes us feel better while lifting the spirits of the person on the receiving end.
Just think of how excited you get when someone opens a present you gave them, or reads a card you wrote. Or the smile you get when you hold the door open for a stranger. Those small acts of kindness can really have a big impact on us. And the recipient? Small acts of kindness can change the course of someone's day completely.
So let’s be that change, during a time when everyone could use some lifting of the spirits.

Here are ways to make someone’s day...from the comfort of your home:
  1. Call a family member or friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Ask them how they are doing, and be a good listener. Is there anything you can do to help them out?
  2. Make a FaceTime call with a friend that may need to see a smile. Especially anyone who is sheltering in place alone.
  3. Write a note card or letter to a family member, friend, or neighbor letting them know you are thinking of them. Think of how rarely we get handwritten notes and how much joy they bring!
  4. Call past and current clients to say hello and let them know that they were on your mind.
  5. Text a motivating quote to a group of friends and family
  6. Clean out your closet and drop off clothes to donate at a local charity
